This is a review on Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer.
I have a fair complexion which is sensitive and acne prone. I try and not wear foundation as much as possible because my skin is scarred from acne and I break out a lot. I’m not the biggest fan of heavy foundation although I do love the fact that it makes my skin look absolutely flawless and gets rid of any imperfections I might have at the time. My face tends to get very oily in the summer which makes wearing foundation hard to do as it makes me look like a disco ball an hour after I apply it. I have tried facial primers (Smashbox Photo Finish Light) which I absolutely love but have ran out and have not got the chance to purchase again. I am going to try using a primer on one half of my face and nothing on the other to see if it really helps control the oil on my face and help keep my foundation on for longer.
My current goal is to find a good tinted moisturizer that covers up the redness on my face from the scarring and the acne I have. So when I first saw the Aveeno commercial for their new tinted moisturizer, I had high expectations and decided to run out and purchase it as soon as I could to try it. I bought it in fair to light and the price was around $16 (At Walmart with tax), which to be honest is a little ridiculous for a moisturizer but I bought it anyway and kept the receipt in case it didn’t turn out as “amazing” as I thought it would.
The thing I liked about it so much is that it had the active ingredient Soy in it, which helps reduce redness and heal scars. I’ve been using their Soy based facial cleanser for awhile and have so far seemed to be noticing the results, so I figured this might benefit me as well.
I tried it on a day I had work, so the morning of I applied it to my face like a foundation. Applying it was easy and it had a pleasant smell which is pretty much the same smell from the facial cleanser. The color gave me a slight tan look but it wasn’t so bad that it made me look like I was on the “Jersey Shore” show. It covered up the redness on my face noticeably well and I was happy with that. However as I looked at myself in the mirror I realized that my face was actually a disco ball, glitter was all over my cheeks and made my face appear extremely oily as if I hadn’t washed my face in a week. I don’t know about you, but I don’t really find that look to be sexy or natural at all. Little did I know that the product has “light reflecting minerals” in it to give you a “glow”, which is more like being sprayed in the face with tiny sparkles as if you were five years old.
I looked to my boyfriend and frowned and knew that this was a huge deal breaker for me and that my tinted moisturizer hunt was still going strong. I soon returned the product and got all of my money back and heard the lady behind the counter say, “This is why I don’t buy make up” — she was obviously speaking of the price.
So on a scale from one to ten, I give this product a four.
Reason: The price is kind of high for what it does. I liked the overall idea of using a great natural active ingredient and the coverage was decent but the light reflecting minerals were a huge let down and never gave me a glow type look. I would buy this product if they removed the light reflecting minerals and played around with the overall shade of the tint to get a more natural look for people with fair skin.
Have you tried this product, and if so did you like it?
